UNC Center for Decision Research: Information for Participants

General Information

We are in need of participants to take part in behavioral and experimental studies. Research will focus on some form of judgment or decision or interpersonal interaction. Researchers at the UNC Center for Decision Research conduct two types of studies:

1. Laboratory Studies: These studies take place at UNC and require your physical presence. Participants will be paid for their participation. Our studies do NOT involve physical exertion or medical procedures.

2. Online Studies: These studies take place online and do not require your physical presence. Studies will take 5 to 60 minutes to complete. After you complete a study online you may be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a prize or you can receive payment for your participation. Prize options may include DVDs, FlashCards and gift certificates from Amazon.com. There is no limit on the number of studies in which you can participate.

1. Do not register for the same experiment more than once.

2. Use only your full official name when registering for experiments.

Violations of these rules may be punishable by permanent banishment from future use of the web site.

Showing your ID

When you show up for an experimental session, you will be asked to show picture ID to prove your identity. If you cannot prove your identity, or the name under which you registered does not exactly match the name on your ID, you may be turned away without compensation.

Failing to show up

Failure to show up for 3 different experiments for which you have registered will result in you being permanently banned from registering for experiments on our website.

No-Show Policy

In some cases, if you receive a no-show mark for missing an experiment you can have it

removed by following the instructions below.

1.     Contact the experimenter to see if a no-show waiver is available

2.     Refer to experiments page, and find another open session of the missed experiment

3.     Arrive to the open session at least 10 minutes prior to the session time

4.     Notify the experimenter on arrival that you are there to have your no-show removed

5.     Please have on-hand the original session date and time of your no-show mark

** You will not be able to register online for the session, due to the previous no-show mark

** Once you have followed the instructions above, you will be allowed to participate and will have your no-show mark removed

If you believe you have been treated unfairly in an experiment, please contact the UNC C4DR Director, Alison Fragale, at afragale@unc.edu so that we may attempt to address the issue and see to it that it doesn't happen again. We want to know if experimenters are cancelling experiments without sufficient notice, failing to show up, or treating participants disrespectfully.

Thank you for participating in experimental research! Please feel free to follow up with the experimenter to ask about the results of the research in which you participated.
